Ajman University of Science and Technology’s newly-appointed Vice President, Mr. Osama Salman, held Wednesday a networking meeting with the officials of AUST administrative and technical departments to discuss ways and strategies to enhance the quality of services offered by these sectors to students both on and off campus. The meeting, which took place in Sheikh Zayed Centre for Conferences and Exhibitions, was attended by Dr. Ahmad Ankit, Assistant to the University President For External Relations and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Basheer Shehadah, Assistant to the University President for Follow-Up and Development, Dr. Zein Elabidin Rizk, Director General of Intellectual and Academic Reference Authority, alongside a number of AUST’s admin and technical executives.
Mr. Salman opened the meeting with some welcome remarks in which he thanked everybody for accepting the invitation to attend the reunion. He said that “this networking event comes as part of a series of meetings already held or still to be held across different colleges and departments to ensure that Ajman University is on track for further success and excellence amongst the leading tertiary education institutions in the UAE and the region. The Vice President stressed AUST’s strong obligation to provide students with high-quality services and amenities which are indispensable for creating a convenient and conducive learning environment. Hence, the varsity is fully committed to deploying the most state-of-the-art resources and infrastructure to help achieve that goal.
Afterwards each department gave a brief presentation about its services, activities, challenges and suggestions for future development. The first department to take the floor was the Student Affairs Department which introduced the audience to the various extracurricular and community engagement activities it organizes for students throughout the academic year. In this respect, it was announced that the process of establishing male and female student councils is underway in line with the norms and guidlines set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Then, it was the turn of the University Facilities and Services Department which revealed a number of development projects AUST intends to carry out in order to enhance the look and feel the campus’ premises and improve the facilities and services offered to the students. Among these projects is the construction of a new hostel for female students, a multi-purpose sports center, besides the upgrading of clinics and laboratories and expansion of car parks by projecting a multistory parking area. It is expected that once completed these developments will be additional points of attraction for potential students who would join Ajman University.
In turn, the officials of the departments of Admissions and Registration, Information Technology, University Relations, University Housing, Transportation, Training Centre, e-Learning Services, Library, Communication Centre also provided an overview of the services their respective departments make available to students, faculty and staff as well as their strategic plans to advance and maintain the quality of these services and surmount the difficulties and challenges hindering their efforts in this regard.
Meanwhile, the meeting also provided a platform for open discussions among AUST senior officers and executives from different departments. These discussions focused on the importance of everybody keeping up the same level of hard work and perseverance for the common good of the university and its student community.
