International Heritage Day at Ajman University

Ajman University of Science and Technology celebrated the diverse culture and heritage represented by the many nationalities of students and staff member. Today they came together under the slogan “Emarat Unites Us”. Dr. Khalid Al Khaja, Acting Director, Ajman University, Dr. Abdul Haq Al-Nuaimi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Community Service, inaugurated the event in the presence of deans, faculty, staff members and students.

The Emirati area emphasized Bedouin roots and flavorsome local cuisine and portrayed its deep-rooted culture and heritage. Other countries present enjoyed the food and cultural stories told by the senior citizens who were there and enjoyed the modern twist to culture and heritage. The university also hosted Mr. Abdullah Rashid Al Murr Al - Kaabi, a researcher on UAE heritage, his extensive collection of ancient artefact was on display.

The importance of Global Day in the UAE is eminent on a day-to-day basis as it is a cosmopolitan country, accepting of and welcoming all nationalities. Ajman University has always reflected the visions of the wise leadership of this country and therefore this event was one of the most popular events of the year at Ajman University, seeing students prepare months in advance to make sure all countries are uniquely represented.

Integrated into a day of awareness was a platform of performances by each of the participating countries, from folkloric dancing from the UAE, Levant, Sudan, Eqypt and a poetry session by local students. The campus was abuzz with activities, fun and the enthusiastic environment kept the students spirits high.

Some of the countries that presented their culture and heritage alongside UAE were Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Syria, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan and others.

Students from Sheikkha Bint Saeed School and Ajman Academy also presented national anthem, diversity of nationality and cultural dances to the University students.
