Students Celebrate Movember with Prostate Cancer Awareness Day

The Department of Community Service, in cooperation with the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, organized a Prostate Cancer Awareness Day for students. The Awareness Day celebrates Movember, an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

The awareness day included a lecture presented by Dr. Sameer Bloukh from the College of Pharmacy, which was attended by Dr. Abdul Haq Al Nuaimi, Vice Chancellor for Advancement & Communication. Dr. Sameer explained what is prostate cancer, its symptoms, causes and means for prevention and treatment. “The occurrence rate for prostate cancer is higher in Europe and North America and lower in Southeast Asia,” said Dr. Samee, adding: “It affects predominantly men who are 50 years or older and is the sixth death-causing type of cancer.”

Al Manara Group of Pharmacies supported this event and distributed packets of vitamins and nutritional supplements for free. In addition, Nazih Men’s Salon gave free haircut and hairstyling to a number of the attending students.
