Ajman University of Science & Technology strives to ensure that excellence is always adhered to as a standard on campus. The bar is raised even higher when it comes to student housing and no efforts are spared to ensure that AUST students are provided with comfortable and inspiring study and living environment.
Within this stream of thought, Ajman University is building a new and highly advanced student residence to accommodate a large number of its female student population. The estimated cost is expected to be over AED 60 million and the completion of this project is foreseen in November 2014.
Mr. Osama Salman, Vice-President of AUST explained that “this home-on-campus building has an integrated, contemporary design that not only accommodates students but facilitates their social integration and academic fulfilment. The entire residence is a picture of comfort and care with privacy for the occupants in their self-contained units which exuberates a warm and pleasant feel.”
Since the students spend more time at their residence on campus than their own homes during the tenure of their education, “it was our goal to ensure it is one of the best memories they carry forth,” commented Mr. Salman, adding that each and every amenity has been designed with students’ comfort and pleasure in mind. All resources were carefully selected to provide a balanced social and cultural environment for the students that would be an ideally conducive to their well-being and education.
It’s noteworthy to mention that peace of mind for the guardians and parents was the pivotal motivation, hence a secure haven was designed to provide round-the-clock security and assistance along with all the related amenities. “Parents have always enjoyed the promise of security for their daughters at AUST campus and hostel, and with the launch of this new residence the concept of “haven” has been upped a notch.” Explained AUST Vice Presdient.
Dr. Mohammed Sherzad, Director AUST Facilities and Services Department, noted that the new residence “enjoys a practical, contemporary design, and is strategically located close to the main campus.” AUST Student Residence will accommodate over 500 students in 298 spacious apartments. The new building is distinctive in many ways, one of which is its cooling system, which utilizes the (VRF) system, saving 30 to 40 per cent of energy to ensure energy-efficient and environment-friendly performance. Solar panels will be used to heat water and conserve energy.
All rooms are en-suite and furnished with a flair for the feminine style. Decorated with immaculate detailed care they are fitted with the latest technology and amenities that complement the students’ lifestyle. Each floor houses a special recreational lounge for its occupants along with a relaxing study lounge. The six-floor building also houses a fully equipped gymnasium, a hobby room fitted out with the latest games and recreational curios, a multipurpose hall, a mini-market and 24-hour service and security. Other amenities include a ladies saloon, laundry, pharmacy supermarket and food court to cater to the various nationalities’ tastes and preferences.
A healthy lifestyle makes students more active and to serve this purpose the outdoor basketball, volleyball and tennis courts offer students an opportunity to enjoy themselves alfresco. The courtyard is meticulously landscaped and a beautiful fountain in the open courtyard provides an ideal serene environment for students socializing on the resting areas.
The event was attended by Engineer Faisal Al Gurg, Chairman Al Gurg Consultants, Mr. Saud Faisal Al Gurg, CEO, Al Gurg Consultants. The project contractor, Team Engineering, were represented by Engineer Hassan Kaoud, General Manager along with University Management.
