Within the framework of academic activities a group of students taking the environment course under took a scientific journey to the Masdar city and visited the Masdar Institute in Abu Dhabi.
Masdar City is one of the most sustainable cities in the world, a unique experience within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi's efforts to consolidate its position as a leading center of global excellence in the field of renewable energy and clean technology. Work began on the project in 2006 after the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company was launched in order to establish the city to rely entirely on solar energy and other renewable sources of energy and the creation of carbonate-free environment and waste.
The city is located 17 kilometers from Abu Dhabi city near Abu Dhabi International Airport, spread over a total area of 700 hectares it is being developed in phases and the project will be completed fully by 2025 .
Masdar City hosts the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, which was established in cooperation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Institute and the Institute of Higher Studies poses research programs and programs in the field of advanced energy and sustainable technologies. It received the first batch of students on September 6, 2009. The Institute aims to support research and development activities in the field of alternative energy and clean technology in Masdar City. The Institute accepts students of all nationalities and hosts at present Master of Science program in computing, information science and engineering of electric power, engineering, management systems and materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering micro-systems and the Water and Environmental Engineering and Chemical Engineering.
