Ajman University Students Participate in the Youth Sustainability Leaders Symposium at Khalifa University

Ajman University students took part in the Youth Sustainability Leaders Symposium, organized by Khalifa University, to highlight inspiring youth-led projects in sustainability. The symposium brought together experts and specialists who engaged with young leaders to discuss the latest sustainable innovations, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and collective efforts for a more sustainable future.

During the event, Ajman University students presented their Sustainability Week "Sustaina" initiative, which was implemented at the University to raise environmental awareness among students, faculty, and staff while encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices that contribute to environmental conservation. Representing the university in presenting this initiative were Hurairah Faatimah Muzammil, along with Itemat Sauria, and Nasima Helal.

The initiative focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through interactive activities and hands-on experiences, dedicating each day to a specific environmental theme. On the first day, Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy was addressed through discussions on integrating sustainability into various professions and measuring carbon footprints. The second day highlighted Goal 14: Life Below Water with an Escape Room Challenge, educating students on marine pollution risks and the importance of biodiversity conservation. On the third day, Goal 15: Life on Land was explored through interactive educational games covering issues like desertification and recycling, while the "Trash to Treasure" competition focused on Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, where students created artworks using recycled materials. The initiative concluded with a focus on Goal 13: Climate Action, featuring tree planting within the University and showcasing sustainable projects aimed at developing innovative environmental solutions.

One of the key achievements of the initiative was the launch of the "Sustaina" E-magazine, which serves as a platform for documenting sustainability efforts at the University and encouraging students to actively engage in environmental issues. The magazine also expands environmental awareness by collaborating with global platforms such as Oxford University’s "Nature Positive University" and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The participation of Ajman University students in this symposium reflects the University’s strong commitment to sustainability through student-led initiatives. It provided them with a valuable opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with peers from other UAE universities, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration. Additionally, the University aims to empower its students to become sustainability leaders through hands-on experiences and direct interaction with experts, while emphasizing the role of cooperative partnerships in addressing climate challenges and promoting sustainable solutions.
