Ajman University’s Women Empowerment Council Celebrates Emirati Women’s Day

The Women Empowerment Council at Ajman University organized a celebration of Emirati Women’s Day featuring a rich program of activities and events that highlighted the remarkable achievements of Emirati women and their pioneering role in serving the community. The event was attended by the University’s Vice Chancellors, faculty and administrative staff, as well as AU students and alumni.

Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, delivered the opening address, expressing pride in the vital role played by Emirati women in the nation’s comprehensive development and commending the unwavering support they continue to receive from the wise leadership. Dr. Nahla Al Qassimi, Chair of the Women Empowerment Council and Dean of Student Services, also addressed the audience, affirming the University’s commitment to empowering women and strengthening their presence across all fields.

The celebration also featured a special segment titled “Voices of Impact”, in which AU alumna Lt. Col. Dr. Fatima Obaid Al Shamsi shared highlights from her professional and humanitarian journey. She reflected on her path of dedication and achievement, emphasizing the esteemed position Emirati women have attained thanks to the leadership’s support and their vital role in advancing the nation’s development. She also discussed the challenges she faced and how she overcame them with determination and perseverance, becoming an inspiring role model for future generations.

In the same segment, Dr. Khaled Al Jasmi from the College of Law spoke about the state’s deep commitment to supporting women through comprehensive legislation, policies, and initiatives that have paved the way for their excellence across academic, professional, and societal domains. He stressed that this support has solidified women’s active presence and impactful participation in the nation’s progress.

The program also included a segment titled “Success Stories of AU Emirati Students,” where Hanifa Salem, Adhari Al Khatri, Nouf Salem, and Heba Farajallah shared inspiring experiences that reflected their excellence in both academic and professional journeys. The session was moderated by Dr. Enaam Youssef, Associate Professor of Sociology at the College of Humanities and Sciences, who emphasized the importance of highlighting young female role models and encouraging them to continue their path of giving and achievement.

The celebration further featured an interactive panel discussion titled “You Are the Legacy: Strength, Service, and the Spirit of Emirati Women,” which addressed key issues related to women’s empowerment and the enhancement of their role across various sectors. The panel brought together Lt. Col. Dr. Ali Al Matrooshi, Director of the Child and Women Protection Department at the General Department of Human Rights, Dubai Police; Major Wafaa Khalil Al Hosani, Director of the Social Support Center at Ajman Police General Command; Ms. Aisha Al Mulla, Member of the University Council of Dubai Police and active Member of Sharjah Youth Parliament; and Ms. Asma Al Shamsi, Manager of Athletics at Ajman University’s Office of Student Life. The session was moderated by Ms. Khawla Obaid Al Ali, Student Leadership and Activities Supervisor at Ajman University, providing a platform for dialogue and exchange of perspectives on the contribution of Emirati women to national service and their role in strengthening values of leadership and social responsibility.

The event concluded with the recognition of outstanding female students and staff members in appreciation of their significant contributions to women’s empowerment.

This celebration reaffirmed Ajman University’s steadfast commitment to supporting women’s empowerment and enhancing their presence across academic, professional, and social spheres. It also underscored the University’s dedication to highlighting inspiring female role models who continue to contribute to national development and strengthen the UAE’s leading global position.
