As part of Ajman University’s commitment to promoting health awareness and empowering women, the AU Women Empowerment Council, in collaboration with the Nursing Department at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and the Nursing Students Club, organized an interactive awareness event titled “Be Aware, Be Empowered” as part of the Pink October initiative, aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer and emphasizing the importance of early detection.
The event featured a series of educational and interactive activities combining theoretical and practical aspects, led by Alaa Al Amiry, Senior Lecturer at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and conducted by second- and third-year nursing students. It included informative presentations on breast cancer symptoms, prevention methods, and early detection techniques, along with hands-on training in breast self-examination using anatomical models under faculty supervision. Participants also had access to digital educational materials and trusted medical resources to deepen their understanding and enhance health literacy.
The activity saw strong engagement from female students across different majors, who showed keen interest in learning self-examination techniques and understanding the critical role of early detection in reducing complications and improving recovery chances. It also provided an open space for discussion and direct interaction with faculty members, enriching both the educational and awareness aspects in an engaging and hands-on manner.
The event concluded with a brief knowledge quiz to assess students’ learning outcomes, adding an academic and practical dimension that reflects Ajman University’s dedication to translating awareness into real-life practice that supports women’s health and empowerment.
This event exemplifies Ajman University’s ongoing commitment to promoting health awareness and empowering women through educational and practical initiatives that align with national efforts to raise breast cancer awareness and encourage early detection. Through such initiatives, AU continues to nurture a conscious and responsible generation that contributes to building a culture of prevention and community well-being both within and beyond the university campus.
