Ajman University’s AI and Data Science Club Brings Hands-On AI Training Workshop to Sharjah Sports Summer Program

Ajman University's AI and Data Science Club under the Office of Student Life took AI education beyond campus and into the community, delivering a hands-on model training workshop for participants of the Sharjah Sports Summer program. The session gave participants something more valuable than an introduction to AI technology. It gave them the experience of building with it.

AI is no longer confined to research labs or specialist industries. It is embedded in the tools people use daily, the platforms that track athletic performance, and the systems that power modern education. Yet for many students, the gap between knowing AI exists and understanding how it works remains wide. The workshop set out to close that gap through practical, accessible, and immediate experience.

Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of how AI recognizes patterns before moving into hands-on model training using Google's Teachable Machine. Working through real inputs and immediate outputs, students experienced firsthand how everyday data can be translated into intelligent responses. The process was iterative and experimental — adjusting variables, observing results, and developing the kind of analytical thinking that sits at the core of data science.

The workshop also connected AI concepts to the world of sport, showing how the same principles behind model training apply to performance analytics, training insights, and real-time feedback systems that are already changing how athletes learn and compete. Making those connections tangible gave participants a clearer sense of how AI literacy translates into real-world relevance.

For Ajman University, the initiative reflected a straightforward but important commitment, that quality education reaches furthest when it meets people where they are. By bringing accessible STEM learning into a community sports program, the AI and Data Science Club demonstrated that understanding artificial intelligence is not a privilege reserved for specialists. It is a skill the next generation deserves access to, wherever they spend their summer.
