As part of Ajman University of Science and Technology’s keenness for drawing on international expertise to further improve its students’ academic achievement, AUST College of Engineering recently received internationally-renowned Japanese architect Satoshi Okada, founder and president of Satoshi Okada Architects Inc. in Tokyo. Professor Okada delivered a number of lectures for Architectural Engineering students, presenting an out-of-the-box design technique called “Thinking of Shadow”, along with an overview of his own theories of modern design and some of his latest flagship projects.
A five-day architectural workshop was held by AUST on October 17-23 and facilitated by Satoshi Okada who shared his genius design ideas with students and engineers from all over the UAE. Participants in this workshop designed a building to accommodate three people with different occupations: a sculptor, a philosopher and a musician.
Commenting on this event, Professor Jihad Awad, Head of Architectural Engineering Department at AUST, said “this workshop is the seventh in a series of professional workshops which are annually offered by the Department in collaboration with leading world-class architects and designers.” At the end, the workshop partakers were awarded certificates of participation signed by Architect Satoshi Okada and Professor Fahar Hayati, Dean of the College of Engineering.
Japanese Satoshi Okada is known worldwide for the simplicity and spirituality of his designs and his assiduous attention to delicate details.
