Oncology Student Club Brings Lung Cancer Awareness to International School of Creative Science Students

Ajman University students brought public health education directly into schools through a lung cancer awareness initiative led by the Oncology Student Club, under the Office of Student Life. Hosted at the International School of Creative Science (ISCS), the workshop introduced students to one of the most pressing health challenges in the region through clear, accessible, and engaging learning.

Lung cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality, often due to late detection and limited awareness of risk factors, including those affecting non-smokers. Addressing this gap requires early education and community engagement. The workshop translated complex medical concepts into practical knowledge, helping students understand symptoms, risk factors, and the importance of early screening.

The interactive workshop stood out for its measurable impact and its alignment with Ajman University’s mission to empower students through experiential learning. Club members collaborated from day one, turning classroom lessons into practical health education. Through coordinated planning and dynamic delivery, they translated complex medical concepts into clear, relatable information for school students. The result was more than understanding of lung cancer basics; it was a spark of informed decision-making, healthy conversations, and proactive attitudes toward screening, prevention, and seeking timely medical advice.

The initiative highlighted strong student engagement and teamwork, demonstrating how a cohesive group effort can create meaningful impact. By bridging theory and practice, the team transformed academic knowledge into accessible health education, showing how disciplinary skills can translate into real-world applications. The workshop also brought public health education to life by demystifying lung cancer, its risk factors, and the importance of early detection, empowering attendees to make informed health decisions. Ultimately, the experience underscored the value of experiential learning, where hands-on, community-focused initiatives not only strengthen professional competencies but also inspire a continued commitment to public health awareness and advocacy.

The Lung Cancer Awareness Workshop not only elevated awareness among school students but also reinforced the Oncology Club’s role as a bridge between academia and community well-being. It signals a sustainable model for future outreach, where student-led initiatives can shape healthier futures through education, collaboration, and practical.
