Ajman University welcomed its newest students this fall with a week of orientation programming built around the theme “Succeeding at AU.” The theme reflects a belief that runs through everything the university does: that helping students succeed starts with preparing them, from day one, with the resources and foundation they need to explore, grow, and advance, not just through their first week on campus, but well beyond graduation and into their professional and personal lives.
Organized by the Office of Student Life at the Deanship of Student Services, this year's Orientation Week put that belief into practice. The week combined ceremony, information sessions, and hands-on workshops designed to help students settle into campus life before classes began.
The week began with a convocation ceremony, where Chancellor Dr. Karim Seghir and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Khaled Assaleh addressed the incoming class.
The next day, students heard directly from the departments they would be working with throughout their time at AU. Representatives from the Deanship of Student Services, Office of Registration, Office of Finance, Office of IT, Library, Office of University Facilities and Services, Masar Career Excellence, Office of Medical Services, Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, Office of International Academic Affairs, and the Office of Community Engagement each presented an overview of their services, giving new students a clear picture of the resources available to them from day one.
Throughout the week, several offices hosted sessions and workshops aimed at different aspects of student life. The Office of Student Life ran a Student Life Open House featuring cultural, artistic, and sports activities along with a lineup of competitions, giving students an early, low-pressure way to meet classmates and get involved outside the classroom. The Office of Student Life also gave students the chance to meet university sports coaches and sign up for teams, a first step for many toward joining a university sports program. On the final day, the office hosted a Discover the UAE presentation and organized a trip to Ajman Museum, introducing students, including many arriving from abroad, to the culture and history of the country they will call home for the next several years.
The Office of Medical Services opened the week with an introductory session on the health services available to students, faculty, and staff, making sure students know where to turn for care and support before they need it.
The Counseling unit held a series of workshops on topics including mental health, goal setting, and the practical realities of student life, offering new students tools to manage the stress and adjustment that often come with starting university.
The Masar Career Excellence team hosted a session titled "Find Your Superpower: Create Your Stand-Out Story," helping students start thinking early about their strengths and how to present themselves professionally, well before they begin applying for internships or jobs.
The Center for Inclusive Learning hosted two workshops. "You Belong Here: Celebrating Diversity on Campus" highlighted the cultural diversity of the student body, reinforcing that AU's international student population is core to the campus community rather than incidental to it. "Your Time, Your Success: Building Smart Habits from Day One" covered time management and study habits, addressing one of the most common challenges new students face when balancing coursework, activities, and personal life for the first time.
International students also had a dedicated orientation session hosted by the Office of International Academic Affairs, addressing the practical questions that come with adjusting to a new country and education system.
Rounding out the week, the Office of Sustainability hosted a workshop titled "Emergency Preparedness, Sustainability, and Climate Action," walking students through emergency procedures while introducing them to the university's broader sustainability efforts.
Orientation Week reflects Ajman University's commitment to a comprehensive, integrated start to the academic year. By combining academic information, career preparation, health and wellness resources, and cultural programming, the university aims to help new students adjust to campus life and build the foundation they need for success, both academically and professionally.
