Ajman University Alumna Maha Jaafar’16 appointed UNICEF National Ambassador to Sudan

Ajman University is proud to recognize that our alumnus, Maha Jaafar, was recently appointed as UNICEF National Ambassador to Sudan for her active role in promoting Sudanese culture and heritage. In her role as National Ambassador, Maha will work to raise awareness about children’s issues and promote UNICEF’s work in Sudan so that more children can benefit from it.

UNICEF, also popularly known as United Nations Children’s Fund, is a United Nations agency responsible for providing humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide. Maha, who graduated from Ajman University’s College of Dentistry in 2016, was chosen as Ambassador for her stellar work in promoting Sudanese heritage and culture through social media and other avenues.

“It’s a huge responsibility to advocate the rights of Sudanese children and make their voices heard. I feel very honored,” said Maha, commenting on her achievement. “It has always been a dream since childhood to be able to do this kind of work, but I never thought I’d be able to achieve this. It serves to prove that if we believe in ourselves and work hard, anything is possible.”

Maha acknowledged the role Ajman University has played in shaping her personality and contributing to her achievements. “I spent 7 wonderful years of my life at AU, where I completed my Bachelor’s in Dental Surgery, followed by a year each of internship and training. I learnt a lot during these years by interacting with people from different cultures and learning to be responsible and self-disciplined,” said Maha.

With presence in more than 190 countries, UNICEF is at the forefront of humanitarian aid for children worldwide. Its work in Sudan assumes heightened importance as Sudanese children are bearing the brunt of decades of conflict and chronic underdevelopment in Sudan.
