Ajman University and Blida University Algeria Host Joint Webinar on Social Statistics

Studying human behavior in social environments is an interesting aspect of social sciences. But quantifying it through statistical analysis of data relating to people and their behaviors can be a challenge.

In order to simplify this process for students, the Social Statistics Club in the Office of Student Life at Ajman University organized a workshop, in coordination with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Blida 2 in Algeria. Entitled The Basics of Building Measurement and Statistical Verification Tools, the workshop featured Prof. Abdelaziz Bou Salem, an expert in Algerian psychological and educational measurement, as the guest speaker. The workshop was presented by Dr. Amal Bayshi, Assistant Professor at the College of Humanities and Sciences at Ajman University.

Prof. Bousalem initiated the discussion by addressing the audience on the skills required by a specialized researcher in social statistics, namely, the skill in collecting data, the skill in theoretical aspects, and the skill of collecting field data. Prof. Bousalem spoke about the basic stages of building measurement tools and methods of verifying their validity, as well as identifying the most important statistical methods to help understand and interpret the results. The workshop included interventions and discussions from postgraduate students at the University of Blida 2 and students from Ajman University. Ideas were exchanged and the objectivity of quantitative research was explored by revealing the most important means of verifying the validity of measurement tools.
