Ajman University and GAC Collaborate for Food Safety Management Training at Expo 2020

The Gulf Accreditation Centre (GAC) in collaboration with Ajman University’s Office of Environmental Health and Safety recently invited AU students, faculty and staff members to attend a training session entitled Food Safety Management Requirements in accordance with International Standard ISO 22000:2018.

AU delegates received a warm welcome from the event coordinators and were trained at the prestigious GCC pavilion at Expo2020 Dubai. The training covered the importance of Health and Safety management requirements and the role of ISO standards in creating reliable consumption sources.

GAC shared an informative presentation that focused on the types, areas of coverage and prominence of ISO standards on a global level. Common misconceptions of ISO standards were debunked, in addition to the challenges that GAC faces in tackling food safety offenders throughout the production cycle.

Attendees also discovered UAE’s leading role as a pioneer in HALAL food labelling across the MENA and GCC region. The UAE was the first to effectively implement the Food Safety Management System ISO 22000:2018 standard in evaluating and labelling HALAL products. The UAE has also developed Emirates National Accreditation System (ENAS) mandated to evaluate the conformity of food products to UAE quality standards and specifications.

Towards the end of the training, questions were welcomed from the audience and a tour of the GCC pavilion was conducted. The training concluded with a group photo session and certificates were awarded to the attendees for their participation.
