Green Campus Initiative by Ajman University Students Holds Promise for a Sustainable Future

Whether it is climate change, resource depletion, carbon emissions or waste management, AU students have a solution to make their campus and the world greener!

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety at Ajman University launched the Green Campus Initiative in parallel with the first ever MENA Climate Week hosted by the United Arab Emirates. The MENA Climate Week was a historic week-long event involving stakeholder engagement for climate action, and paved the road towards COP27 and COP28.

Coinciding with this momentous event, Ajman University’s Green Campus Initiative highlights AU’s commitment to nurturing a safe and healthy working environment for AU Community members.

In line with UAE's Green Agenda and United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)*, the Sustainable Campus initiative was launched as a green platform run by AU Youth driven towards a robust discussion and idea sharing for a sustainable future. Over 20 bright students from the College of Engineering and IT, College of Dentistry and College of Business Administration shared their remarkable ideas to make AU campus greener!

Students addressed areas of development and shared practical solutions to reduce pollution and waste on campus. Despite the diverse academic backgrounds of panelists, they were united towards one goal: spread environmental awareness and climate action.

The Sustainable Campus Initiative fulfills the following SDGs: 4- Quality Education, 6-Clean Water and Sanitation, 13-Climate Action and 15-Life on Land.

We are proud of our students’ high environmental and social responsibility and their keenness to pioneer a sustainable ecosystem for the coming generations.

AU students' green campus ideas will see the light soon. Now is the best time to go green, what’s your strategy for a greener AU?
