The Student Counseling Unit Organizes a Reaching for the Stars Series

The Counseling Unit atthe Office of Student Life, Ajman University, organized a workshop as part of the “Reaching for the Stars” Series, aiming to enhance the cultural environment and develop critical thinking among students. The month of November was dedicated to discussing the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the year 1962.

Dr. Gabriel Andrade, Assistant Professor in the College of Medicine at Ajman University, conducted the workshop, shedding light on the Nobel Prize awarded to James Watson, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkins for their research on the molecular structure of DNA. These studies contributed to addressing vital biological challenges, representing a prominent turning point in the field of life sciences. Moreover, their studies reshaped our understanding of life and marked the beginning of the era of the biological renaissance.

Dr. Senthil Kumar Rajasekaran, Acting Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Khalifa University, delivered an inspiring lecture discussing his perspective on how the discovery of DNA motivates students to achieve success. Additionally, Dr. Solomon Senok, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Ajman University, presented an interesting survey exploring the controversies surrounding how Watson and Crick collaborated with other researchers in their discovery of DNA. In conclusion, Dr. Rasha Abuelgasim Babiker, Assistant Professor of Physiology at RAK Medical and Health Sciences University, provided interesting insights into the ethical complexities of acquiring knowledge about how DNA works.

The Nobel Prizes serve as a source of inspiration and a significant opportunity for students to benefit from academic research, encouraging them to engage in creative thinking and innovation. Moreover, they contribute to fostering students' interest in various research and academic fields, enabling them to understand the impact of scientific and literary research on societal and global development, and helping them build their academic and professional path.

The Counseling Unit is dedicated to providing students with rich experiences in a dynamic learning environment by   organizing diverse events and interactive workshops, encouraging students to explore a range of topics, engage with influential speakers, and broaden their perspectives.
