As part of its initiatives to enhance the employability skills of its students and offer them a range of real-world, industry-aligned courses and certifications, Ajman University (AU) has launched an initiative with Coursera, a leading global provider of massive open online courses (MOOC). Under the initiative, AU students are being provided access to hundreds of well-designed courses and job-relevant credentials through Career Academy from Coursera, including professional certificates from renowned global industry leaders and academic institutions.

Prof. Khaled Assaleh, AU’s Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, was invited to be the main guest in a fireside chat event organized by Coursera on May 18, 2023, in Dubai to share AU’s successful experience with the implementation of Coursera. The event witnessed the participation of a large number of university officials and representatives and officials from the Council for Academic Accreditation (CAA), Ministry of Education in the UAE and other key managers from various well-known companies.

Prof. Khaled highlighted the impressive figures of student enrolment, lessons taken by students, certificates completed, the various skill competency domains that were covered and the numbers of students who benefited from the offered courses.

It is worth mentioning that more than 1400 AU students from different colleges have been engaged with Coursera courses during the Spring 2023 semester and have taken over 26 thousand lessons with more than nine thousand learning hours. The students have received 2570 completion certificates issued by Coursera and the industry and academic providers. The courses covered eclectic skill competencies in various domains such as personal development areas including creative thinking, collaboration, leadership, teamwork, and negotiation, and writing skills; in addition to a wide range of courses in computer and data areas such as machine learning, networking and storage, cloud computing, and wireless security.
