A panel of leading executives convened at Ajman University on April 30 for a roundtable discussion on the UAE's burgeoning innovation ecosystem. The event, titled "CXO Connect: Leading with Creativity: How Executive Leadership Drives Innovation and Impact," is part of Ajman University's ongoing effort to strengthen ties between industry and academia through a series of discussions with top CXOs
The panelists—Mr. Sajith Ansar, Founder and CEO of Idea Spice; Mr. Jatin Kalra, VP of Apparel Group; and Mr. Christoph Koster, CEO of ruya—shared their insights on fostering creativity in leadership, driving sustainable growth, and the role of higher education in cultivating an innovative mindset. Dr. Abeer Al Ghananeem, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Ajman University, moderated the discussion.
Reflecting on the event, Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, said, “AU has launched the CXO Connect program to cultivate a robust ecosystem of industry partnerships. This initiative is designed to develop highly-skilled talent, promote industry-relevant research, and champion continuous learning. By doing so, AU aims to contribute to the UAE's national vision of becoming a prominent leader in the global knowledge economy.”
In response to a question about the UAE's potential to lead in innovation, Mr. Ansar emphasized the nation's successful diversification from an oil-based economy to a hub for tourism and knowledge. "The UAE government's proactive approach in creating a supportive environment for startups and groundbreaking ideas is commendable," Mr. Ansar noted. "With ongoing financial support and strategic initiatives, the UAE is poised to unveil transformative innovations that will solidify its position as a global innovation leader."
Mr. Kalra underscored the UAE's steadfast commitment to growth and innovation, describing the nation as a pioneer in all sectors and a powerful motivator for organizations striving for excellence.
Mr. Koster highlighted the significant shift in the UAE's economic landscape, noting the rise of more homegrown innovative companies alongside the presence of global brands. "Dubai is now recognized as one of the world's top five fintech centers," Mr. Koster stated, emphasizing the region's growing influence in the financial technology sector.
The CXOs advised students to cultivate strong interpersonal skills and empathy alongside technical expertise, and to maintain a focus on long-term objectives to thrive in the evolving modern economy.
