Ajman University's Nursing Club Delivers Nursing Care and Vital Basics Workshop for Students at Al Ahliya Private School
Ajman University students took their passion for healthcare beyond campus and into the classroom, delivering a community outreach workshop on Nursing Care and Vital Basics at Al Ahliya Private School. Organized by the AU Nursing Club and guided by Dr. Wafaa Khasawneh from the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, the session gave 177 Grade 12 students an up-close look at the vital role nurses play in patient care and emergency response.
Dr. Khasawneh led the session with a focus on practical application, connecting core nursing concepts directly to real-life healthcare situations. Students learned to measure and interpret vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and oxygen saturation, while understanding the importance of accuracy, patient awareness, and safety during assessments. Proper hand hygiene was also covered as a foundational element of patient safety, supported by demonstrations that reinforced correct technique and its relevance in clinical settings.
Hands-on exposure extended into basic first aid and emergency response. Using first aid kits and guided demonstrations, students practiced assessing common situations, responding calmly, and handling essential tools with confidence. Throughout the session, the emphasis remained on critical thinking, informed decision-making, and patient-centered care. Students asked questions, worked through real-world scenarios, and left with a deeper appreciation for the responsibilities nurses carry every day.
The session highlighted not only the technical skills required in nursing but also the composure, communication, and compassion that the profession demands. Through initiatives like this, coordinated by the Office of Student Life, Ajman University continues to bring education into the communities it serves, giving students meaningful outreach experience while building health awareness and practical skills among the next generation.
