AUST celebrates the Arabic language with “My Language, My Identity” event

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Department of Tourism Development, the College of Information, Mass Communication and Humanities at Ajman University of Science and Technology launched the second edition of the "My Language My Identity" event under the slogan “A Day Without Dialectal Arabic”. The event aims at raising awareness on the importance of the Arabic language and its preservation.

In his speech at the ceremony, Mr. Osama Saeed Salman, AUST Vice President, stressed that the Arabic language is a vital tool in strengthening our national identity because it is the expression of our values, culture and distinct historical heritage. He also emphasized that Arabic is a rich language that has maintained its authenticity for more than two thousand years and is characterized by its ability to cope with the present and the future.

Mr. Salman pointed out that Ajman University is keen on sponsoring and organizing such initiatives so as to contribute to the preservation of the Arabic language and its Islamic values, strengthening its position in society and protecting it from foreign influences and alienation.

On the sidelines of the ceremony various cultural activities took place, depicting the theme of the event. A group of students performed a play reflecting the era of the Arab knights. Displays of Arabic calligraphy, books, building models and souks were present to symbolize the power of classical Arabic.

It should be noted that this event comes within the framework of the university's keenness to raise awareness on the importance of the Arabic language, especially within the College of Information, Mass Communication, and the Humanities, which aspires to build a new generation of media professionals and journalists. This event will assist them in the proper and responsible usage of the Arabic language tools.
