Best Volunteer Work Award for Ajman University

Ajman University of Science & Technology won recently the first position for best volunteer work, for the intuitions category, during the 10th edition of the Sharjah Award for Volunteer Work. The award is an acknowledgement of the remarkable community service provided by AUST College of Dentistry.
The award ceremony, organized under the patronage of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler Sharjah, and chaired by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, took place in the Sharjah Palace of Culture. Ajman University was represented by Dr. Salem Abou Fanas, Dean of the College of Dentistry, and Dr. Moutasim bi’llah Khir, head of the Department of Basic Sciences in the same college. Dr. Salem received the award from the hands of Sharjah’s crown prince.
AUST dental college has a rich record of humanitarian and volunteer work. Since its inception, the college along with its clinics has implemented an active policy of awareness, prevention and treatment. It has been providing a wide spectrum of free to low-cost dental services to low income individuals in Ajman and the northern emirates. AUST dental clinics for instance receive on a weekly basis hundreds of patients in their state-of-the-art in-campus facility at AUST. The college went a step further by opening off-campus clinics in the Ihsan Medical Center in Ajman as well as in Ajman Penitentiary Establishment. Treatment is provided through practicing dentists and dental graduates from the University. The college also provides free treatments and exams to Ajman schools’ pupils in coordination with Ajman Medical and Educational Zones, and develops and implements a free awareness and treatment program for Ajman Center for the Disabled and the Social Service Department.
So far some 100.000 patients were treated in-campus by the College of Dentistry, in addition to more than 11.000 cases who have received free checks and treatment in the external clinics.
