Student Affairs Department at Ajman University of Science and Technology organized a seminar to promote the spirit of volunteering in a collaborative venture with Red Crescent Society, Ajman. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Imad Hamed AbuShabaan, Student Coordinator at Red Crescent entitled “Joy in Volunteer Work”.
The seminar reiterated the history and origin of volunteer work and highlighted its importance and development. The need to lend a helping hand to those in crisis can have long lasting effects on any community. It also dealt with the concept of volunteering in the light of Islamic values, which encourages volunteering.
Mr. Imad discussed the activities of Red Crescent, its achievements and the distinct services it extends to the community at large. He also presented examples of humanitarian aid and volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to serve human being. He also added that the need to hone these skill of volunteering is very important and its responsibility lies with the authorities.
He also pointed out that Ajman University’s proactive role in encouraging students and promoting this campaign would ensure its students are imbued with this valuable trait. Educational institutions bear the main responsibility of raising awareness for this work amongst the students, the environment in which to foster this is very active at Ajman University.
At the end of the seminar students were very keen on the various kinds of volunteer services they can render for the community, they also filled up volunteer forms to apply for the various projects.
For his part, Dr. Abdul Haq al-Nuaimi, Acting Director General of the Department of Student Affairs, appreciated the efforts of those in charge of organizing this seminar he stressed on the importance of spreading the culture of volunteerism among young people, especially in our countries, where our history is a legacy of human and moral good values; it is our duty to pass them onto the new generation.
