AUST License Renewed by Ministry of Higher Education

His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, has issued his Ministerial Decree No. 133 dated 8th July 2013 renewing the license of Ajman University of Science and Technology to work within the higher education sector in the UAE. The new five-year license takes effect June 1st 2013 till May 31st 2018. This permit was gained based on the recommendations of the Commission for Academic Accreditation, whose commissioners and external experts recently undertook several review visits to the campus to assess the institution’s compliance with the established licensure standards.

Mr. Osama Salman, AUST Vice President, extends his deep gratitude to H.E. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan whose earnest efforts to develop and raise the standards of higher education in the UAE are truly commendable, for they have put the UAE’s higher education at par with most internationally-recognized tertiary education systems worldwide. The Vice President said that this decision is also a renewal of the Ministry’s confidence in Ajman University as a leading educational institution both locally and regionally, which commits itself to using better international practices. AUST utilizes its entire potential and expertise to serve the students’ best interests. He also pointed out that this decision is a great motivator for more robust endeavors in the future and would propel the institution to bigger achievements.

Earlier, the Ministry announced the list of licensed universities and higher education institutions in the UAE and their accredited programs. AUST is well placed with 44 degree programs: 32 undergraduate plus 12 graduate courses.

Ajman University was the first private institution of higher education at the UAE and regional levels. The then Ajman University College of Science and Technology was founded in 1988 by virtue of the Emiri Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuiami, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman. It received its first batch of students in September the same year. In 1997, the Ministerial Decree No. 54 of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research was signed transforming Ajman University College into a full-fledged university; hence Ajman University of Science and Technology came into being.

Over its 25 years of existence, the University has witnessed immense growth and today holds and cherishes a prominent place amongst other UAE and GCC higher education institutions. It has deservedly become a house of expertise and a center for academic and intellectual excellence.

Feeding the job market with over 27,000 all-round graduates in various disciplines, undertaking countless research and community service projects as well as holding hundreds of world-class conferences and seminars, Ajman University has carved its niche in the higher education arena and earned a stellar reputation.
