AU Hosts Fine Arts Carnival 2023: Environmental Messages Echoing Climate Challenges

Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, inaugurated the 'Fine Arts Carnival 2023' on campus at the Sheikh Zayed Center along with Cabinet Members. The carnival aimed at enhancing cultural exchange and communication between artists and students, providing a platform for them to showcase their artistic innovation.

The theme of this year was ‘Environmental Messages Emulating Climate Challenges.'  The carnival brought together more than 40 artists from various parts of the world, showcasing a diverse range of artistic expressions, including traditional paintings and multi-material sculptures, emphasizing diversity and creativity in the world of art. The artists highlighted the importance of water bodies and climate change through their paintings and artwork.

Furthermore, the theme of the carnival is in line with the UAE President H.H Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s decree declaring 2023 to be the “Year of Sustainability”. This choice underscores the carnival's commitment to supporting global efforts in addressing climate challenges and achieving sustainable development. It also contributes to supporting the UAE's hosting of the COP28 conference, a significant global occasion for discussing and exchanging innovative solutions to combat climate challenges.

On the first day of the carnival, visitors had the opportunity to explore and discuss the displayed artworks with the artists, and on the second day, 40 workshops were held for students, aiming to enhance understanding and awareness of various artistic techniques. The "Fine Art Photography" workshop focused on capturing and editing high-resolution images to achieve distinctive artistic effects, while the "Collage Art" workshop used various cutting and pasting techniques, providing participants with the opportunity to learn and explore new artistic methods.

Ms. Mona Mohammed, Senior Officer of Arts and Student Activities at the Office of Student Life, pointed out that AU is committed to supporting young artistic talents by hosting the 'Fine Arts Carnival 2023' annually. She described this event as an interactive platform that brings together artists and students to exchange ideas and creativity. Moreover, she emphasised the Office of Student Life’s dedication to encouraging talents and developing artistic skills among students, expressing her anticipation for more inspiring events in the future that contribute to enhancing environmental and cultural awareness among members of the community.

AU continues to promoting cultural awareness and supporting creative talents in various fields of fine arts by providing students with workshops and training courses in different art fields, allowing them to explore artistic techniques and develop their creative skills.
