The Alumni Council of Ajman University of Science and Technology held recently its first meeting in the academic year 2011-2012 in Sheikh Zayed Centre for Conferences and Exhibitions. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Ahmad Ankit, Vice President for External Relations and Cultural Affairs, and was attended by Mrs. Rana Mohamed Kalam, in-charge of the Alumni Association, along with the 12 members of the Council: Tarek Namr, Ayham Zebari, Marwa Amin, Salem Matroushi, Wafa Suwaidi, Salma Shadid, Hassan Abdul Kader, Samar Mahmud and Ruzan Atiya.
Dr. Ankit welcomed the new members and thanked them for taking part in the Alumni Council. He presented them with the attention paid by the University President to the Alumni Association and its mission to the community. He also discussed the ideas and mechanisms that can be further developed or activated in coordination with the Alumni Council.
Dr. Ankit expressed his total support to the Alumni Council members in order to ensure that the council is able to carry out its mission successfully. He also pointed out to the importance of maintaining communication with all AUST graduates and updating them regularly on the University. He advised that the Alumni Council holds regular meetings on a more frequent basis.
On her part, Mrs. Rana Mohamed Kalam, the officer in-charge of the Alumni Association, thanked all the members of the Council and praised their sense of community and voluntary work. She explained that the mission of the Council will be implemented in accordance with a strategic plan that comprises short, medium and long-term activities. She also presented the Council with some examples of these activities. Then 8 committees were formed and missions and tasks were assigned to each one of them.
In the end of the meeting an election by vote was held and graduate Salem Matroushi was elected as President of the Council and Mrs. Wafa Suwaidi as Vice-President.
